Supplies

Equipment for making Kefir or Yoghurt. Supplies you will need to gather before to start culturing. If start making yogurt a Digital Food Thermometer is necessary to monitor the temperature. If you start making milk of water kefir you can use a reusable Temperature Indicating Strip, the strip is easy to read and unbreakable. Just put the strip on the outside of your culturing jar. Other kitchen utensils you'll may need to have or buy, in order to start make kefir or yogurt are : plastic spatula or spoon, plastic sieve or mesh strainer, a bowl, a culturing container and a cover for the container. Avoid metal utensils when making kefir, stainless steel is acceptable, some metals can damage the kefir grains.

Some tips :

  1. while making water kefir use a muslin bag to hold the kefir grains or dried fruit in during the fermentation
  2. while making kefir or yogurt with a ferment or starter culture, use a thermos flask. A flask is less complicated to use then a electric yogurtmaker.
